I recently realized that my bed sheets have served many purposes over the years.
When I was a child, they were used as fort covers and tents in the living room during sleepovers. Once, I made a bindlestiff with them and attempted to run away from home (a plan that failed miserably).
They’ve been through the coldest (Floridian) winters and have helped save the lives of many of our garden plants. They’ve also accompanied me on picnics and other outdoor events. They have apparently spent a lot of time around water, including multiple pool and beach parties.
Then, there are the times when I needed them most. After something in my life would break, I’d come home and bury my face in the sheets. They didn’t care if I got tears and running mascara on them. They couldn’t judge me or tell me to suck it up and move on. They were simply there for comfort, emotional and physical.
Bed sheets are so much more than just that. And as silly and stupid as it may seem, I just wanted to recognize their importance. Every night, you fall asleep under them, but never truly see the difference they make or the memories they hold.
So thank your sheets. They’ve done so much for you.
